Artist Statement
My artworks for Master of Art Exhibition is an investigation and introspection of interpersonal relationships. I transform domestic and familiar objects to present contradiction and duality.
I am intrigued and fascinated by how human relate to their furniture and possessions in a home setting. Home, not architecture or real estate, is a place full with memories, profound connections, complex relationships, emotional attachments, self-reflection and expression. Ultimately, Home, is the place where all relationships begin.
Color plays an important role in my works. Using the color white to represent innocence and fantasy; red to symbolize familial entanglements, kinship and destiny; pink to further the idea of compassion, nurturing and vulnerability, and yellow to enhance feeling of caution and anxiety. I work at understanding the emotional weights of my color choice, and how colors invoke different responses for each viewer emotionally and psychologically.
My interest in household objects has become a source of discovering and understanding others and myself. All pieces are inter-related, but each stood independently. One piece of work led me to another. I use each object as a way to address universal experiences through the dynamics of human relationships.
